Film to premiere on cell phones
At a time when most Americans can't get local movie listings on their cell phone screens, an Indian carrier is putting an entire film onto wireless phones. Makes America Online's big deal about bringing the "Star Wars" trailer to PCs a day early seem kinda retro.
According to IndiaFM--a co-sponsor of the promotion--a "much talked-about campus caper" called "Rok Sako To Rok Lo" hits theaters on Friday, but Airtel subscribers can watch the entire feature on their tiny little EDGE-enabled cell phone screens Thursday. We learned this from Boing Boing, which got it from Gizmodo, which must have a Delhi bureau or something.
An entire movie on your small, small screen, before it hits the big screen. Not entirely uncool--if you ignore the eye strain, the 90 minutes or more of data connection charges and the issue of whether the phone battery will last for nearly two hours of video.
